What would you call a Compendium of Loremaster fan work?

    Hello All,

I'm trying to think of a name other than "compendium" for Forgotten Realms fan work created by members of Loremaster.org.

I'm all for Candlekeep's effort to relaunch their Candlekeep Compendium (though I'm not going to hold my breath there), but I think Loremaster still ought to do something fan work related.

So, what should members of Loremaster call themselves for this sort of project? Sages? Lorekeepers?

What d'yee say Matt? Are you up for one more project to throw on the pile?
Realmslore is a lot like a fractal: the thinner you slice it the more details you get. This is why there are no absolutes in the Realms.

Should you find the answer to a Realmslore question, you haven't established the truth of anything. Rather, you've found a way to open a door that was previously closed to you.

Once you step through that door and have a look around, you'll find a new room with more doors on the other side, waiting for you to figure out how to open them.

(And people wonder why adventurers go poking around in dungeons!)

Not sure. If CK won't host it, I'm sure we can come up with a name as the project moves forward.

To be clear: I'm not trying to do this away from CK. I'm just getting an really huge amount of blowback from the staff there. I don't understand why other than something I'm just not seeing.

I think this would be a very fun project to restart, and it would be great for Forgotten Realms fans.

Why not just call it the Candlekeep Compendium X? Its not like they have it trademarked.

Of course, that might be viewed as a slap in the face.

    How about the Candlekeep Conspectus?

    Alaundo's Lexicon?

Faerūn Folio? (not feeling that one)

    The Libram of Realms Forgotten?

    The Realmsicon?

Maybe just Realms Lore? (or Realmslore), to tie it to this site?

All fine examples. I'm not sure I want to create any form of artificial competition with CK. I do understand their healthy dose of fear, but I just think it's been far too long for a nice fun piece of Realms fan-fiction. I'm glad to see many people are still willing and eager to support such a project.

I was thinking Sageworks. Or Loremaster's Friendly Fan Fiction or Friendly Fan Works.

I wouldn't view anything at Loremaster as taking away from Candlekeep. It just seems like there's a greater willingness here to get something going. Since the project sounds fun and I'm here to have fun, then I want to be where the fun is at, you know?

    Not from me, I hope.

I have really been trying hard to establish a new status of understanding for the relationship between both Candlekeep and Wizards, so we can get a new volume of the Compendium going. And it's not been helped by the fact that Alaundo has been silent on the issue [though, he's got a lot on his plate, so I'm assuming his silence is only because he's so busy.]

    ...

Regardless, I've put forth my support for whatever initiative you and Brian manage to put carry out here. You can count me in.

As for possible names... a few suggestions:-

    - "Chronicla Candlekeep" -- a play on the Chronicla Tethyria from the Candlekeep List of Books and Tomes
    - "Candlekeep Commentaries"
    - "The Candlekeep Folio"
    - "Volo's Guide to Candlekeep" -- offered almost purely as a jest
    - "Candlekeep Chapbooks"

Not from you, Sage. You seem alot like myself: just happy to do what we can for the Realms. I'm willing to take on the burden if CK can't for whichever reasons. Thanks for coming over here, it means a ton, as your love of the Realms is crystal clear!

    How about simply "Forgotten Lore"

That ties it both to the Realms, and this site.

As much as I would love to call it something with Candlekeep in the name, I really think that may be construed as undermining the CKC. Obviously Sage doesn't mind, but I'm not sure if Wooly and Alaundo would agree.

Its a damn shame, because I think Candlekeep can become so much more, if just allowed to grow along with the new 5e initiative. It could become THE 'go to' site for 'all things FR' (in other words, a lot more mainstream).

I'll be honest, it's really something I should've done ages ago.

I'd take it one step further, actually, and suggest that because Matt is willing to establish this fan-based compendium as a "successor" of sorts to the original Candlekeep Compendium, then perhaps it should be reflective of this site. Obviously "Loremaster's Compendium/Chronicles" are somewhat inane terms, but it does help to illustrate what I'm suggesting here.
