Surely this lineage piece is top-notch.
Well, it's not entirely true. The original Realms players, who've played with Ed since the beginning, know more about the ins and outs of Cormyr than I do. The behind the scenes, what piece fits where, and why, and maybe we should change this just a bit, well, I'll admit: I know it pretty darned well.

Let's see how the Cormyr stuff goes over this month, though. I'm afraid it might be overshadowed by other announcements just made by WotC, yanno?

    It's not just this, though.

Cormyr has an unbroken line 1450+ years long. But it's also a stable monarchy, with people whose job it is too keep records of births and deaths and the events of reigns and all that good stuff. The Royal Lineage has a central conceit that there's no reason this particular document wouldn't exist in Faerûn, in Cormyr, in a vault somewhere (because, you know, Crown secrets and all that). It's a real, living thing, just like a Burke's Peerage or other direct examination of the nobility of a real-world, living realm.

Which is kind of why I like it so much.

That's a particularly provocative analysis, Brian, and I for one am glad you've come to view it as such.

    ...

Of course, the downside is that this has only amplified my desire for me to have a peek at this grand and evolving work.

Oh, but that's not a downside, unless you fail to transmit that desire to the people who make the relevant decisions. I know that there are a number of folks who want to see the Lineage, but it seems, often, that their efforts to let WotC know about that craving can't coalesce and wave the banner high enough.

I will be sure to let WotC know! You and Matt James should work on something together too. I like the way both of you write.

Which is unfortunate... but also completely understandable given the continually evolving nature of the work.
