In 1987, while at a friendly local gaming store in Littleton, Colorado, Brian R. James was faced with a dilemma. He could either use his hard-earned allowance to purchase the Temple of Elemental Evil module for Dungeons & Dragons, or a new product for a mysterious campaign called the Forgotten Realms. Frustrated with the situation he found himself in, and only enough money to purchase one, he ultimately chose the Forgotten Realms boxed set, if for no other reason than the volume of content it contained. A wise choice, for the lore that came in that box that would forever change his life. It wouldn't be long before Brian was running campaigns for his friends, designing encounters and plots for their characters to engage in, and provide him a deep-seeded love of intricate maps!
As Brian adventured through the fantastic world(s) of Abeir-Toril, it wouldn't be long before his younger brother, Matt James, would notice. Seven years younger, Matt was a terror for not only his brother, but for any and all campaigns he tried to run out of their home. Matt was not unlike most younger siblings, constantly getting into things he shouldn't, and generally being a nuisance that needed to be quelled. As the next several years would go by, Brian often bounced ideas off of Matt, if for no other reason than to hear himself out. Matt paid attention. As Matt grew older, he would help his brother come up with cool new ideas as well as discuss lore, plots, and content.
