Tell us about your 4E Forgotten Realms campaign

I'm sincerely hoping that Matt won't destroy this site again because I posted this same topic in the site's previous incarnation and I really enjoyed the replied.

As someone who has liked FR since the original, and legendary, Grey Box and still likes the post-Spellplague version (except for the map: it sucks and will never be forgiven), I like to read positive things about the post-Spellplague Realms.

So please tell the rest of us about your campaigns, whether they are being played, have been completed or are currently in planning.
    Cheers

    Bugger.

I got some good replies last time. Oh well, another FR4E site that has died....

    My Realms Campaign

I was running a 4e Realms campaign based out of Cormanthor (all the players thought they'd be clever and play elves).

I have a mostly unused Obsidian Portal site for it here: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campai...-of-cormanthor

There's a link on the Wiki tab that'll take you to the WotC forums where I was chronicling the game, though that habit died about half-way through the campaign's life. The primary campaign left Cormanthor and went into the Astral Sea for a short while, where the PCs befriended some Vistani, got into trouble with some githyanki and there was a TPK (which I later retconned away) after an encounter with some gith, a beholder, and a mind flayer.

Basically, the idea behind the campaign was that the Coronal's husband was a member of an ancient racist elf organization (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Eldreth_Veluuthra) and is manipulating her and the government to shut off Myth Drannor, and eventually the whole of the forest, from the outside world. As a result, security is low outside the city and the drow have crept back in. But the drow are more of a threat than anyone realizes and are using the forest's magic and connections with the Feywild to attempt to bring reinforcements from the Feydark. The forest the elves would have returned to after their visit to the Astral would have been rather different from the one they left behind...

Unfortunately, it's no longer in progress as there was some group drama and after losing one of our players over it we decided to switch to my homebrew campaign world instead.

My current FR-4e campaign started many many moons ago about 06') with v3.5e and a motley crew of newbs who'd just figured out how to play (as they'd say) for-reeals! I received inspiration from the old 80's D&D cartoon and decided to do a one-shot campaign using "Us" as the actual characters. Naturally, everone assumed that they'd be human but Oh No, I wasn't doing it that esay. We did a majority vote on race, class, and ability scores (beefed up a bit as we'd be PCs) and it came to 1 half-elf rogue, 1 human knight (ph2), 1 human cleric (he has a degree in theology), 1 sun elf wizardess, and 2 dwarf fighters. It basically starts with the previous DM buying a strange looking book at a Pawn Shop which weird writings. He wants to use this as a prop at our games and when he does, it starts a chain-reaction portal that throws us into the Forgotten Realms. I had given people bonuses to "Realmslore" based on their experience with the setting from video games (like BG, NWN, IWD); novels, and game supplements. From there, it was an attempt to get back to our home planet.

Of course, we had to make it interesting so we made Common the equivalent to the English language to help with that barrier. So they progressed to level 8 and doing very well for themselves in the confines of the City of Splendors. The campaign was Episodic in nature, as one mini-adventure really didn't effect another but when 4E hit, I had wanted the group to progress to the Post-Spellplague Realms. Naturally, the easiest transition was to send them through a portal "home" by Khelben Blackstaff (whom the sun elf wizardess was working for as an apprentice). The portal was a tricky thing for the PC and so to make matters easier, they couldn't carry anything magical with them through the portal (yay, no more Legacy items AHAHAHAH!!!) but in the end, the portal malfunctioned and they were stuck in Limbo for a whole century. When the portal was activated (by students in a classroom) the PCs spilled out onto the floor in the future (still at level 8).

A few remained from the century before, namely the two dwarves who are now a bit more wealthy and these two were able to bring the PCs back up to speed on the current affairs of Waterdeep, the happenings of the Spellplague, etc... So now, they've re-built their characters (1 human Knight, 1 human warpriest (Sun), 1 female eladrin mage (enchantment), 1 half-elf assassin (executioner), 1 dwarf fighter|barbarian, and a few NPCs that were once players who've come and gone.

Now in the current Realms, they're attempting to re-take Neverwinter from a large occupying force of Orcs, Fey, and Elementals that ravage the war-torn city. But I've put things on hold until the new Neverwinter Campaign Guide comes out late this year. Until then, they've gone Pirate hunting .

Sorry the post is so long :-(

I had forgotten about this thread assuming it had been devoured in yet another crash of this website.

We're a few sessions into a Neverwinter 4E game. I'm running it very much as a sandbox but the PCs seem to be attracted to the hooks involving the Red Wizards. I suspect that they will continue to pursue the Thayans until we end up with the PCs battling the dracolich, Lorragauth, from the bridges and battlements of Castle Never. Yes, I am hoping to finish the campaign with a grand melee inspired by Ralph Horsley's wonderful cover art for the Neverwinter Campaign Setting!

(A quick aside. I'm actually getting coffee mugs made with the same cover art for use in our games.)

Character Themes have played an enormous role in getting the players enthused. I can't imagine a game without them now.
