No, I don't care that it's in August and it's only January, I'll start a thread anyway.
So who's going this year? I plan to go again this year, and hopefully be more organized and prepared than last year where I spent half the con stalking Matt for lack of anything better to do, rofl.
My probably-not-going-to-be-met goal this year is to actually room with people at a downtown hotel. Last year I was six miles out and drove in each day from the hotel, and it wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either and led to at least one 'oh **** it's midnight the garage closes' moment. XD;
Reminds me to drag someone I know locally with me. It's a little intimidating with a con as big as GenCon when you don't really know anyone there.

I'll be there. The VIG program has been great for me in the past couple of years. I already have a couple rooms booked at the Westin.

I am seriously looking at getting to GenCon. It's only about a six hour drive from here, and almost entirely Interstate, and by then I should have more than enough leave built up to take Wednesday to the next Monday off.
The VIG programme looks good to me, too. I can definitely imagine myself wanting to get out of the crowds every so often.

The VIG thing is way too expensive for me. It breaks the budget just going in the first place. XD Ahh, the suck of working retail.

My wife has been nice enough to give me the "birthday gift" of going to Gencon instead of going to SynDCon it was a surprise that is for sure so I will for the first time be going.

I hear that I work for Best Buy, I think its time to look elsewhere for work.

One thing that I started doing with a buddy, was getting the VIG package and splitting everything right down the middle. It helps to offset the cost, while still getting all of the benefits of the program. I'm telling you right now, not fighting for a close hotel room AND having your own event registration area, is worth every penny!

I'm sure it is, but I can't afford a close hotel room either unless I shared, and I don't know anyone well enough that would need a roommate. XD Probably gonna stay out a ways again. Not the same hotel though. The one I wound up in was the nastiest hotel I've had the displeasure of staying in. The room itself was fine, but the stairway I had to go up to get to the second floor was full of mold, the second floor rooms were outside entrance for maximum 'I'm going to get raped' and there wasn't an elevator, just moldy nasty steep-ass stairs. Ew.
Maybe 2012 will be more put together. I'll have graduated by then and will hopefully have a less dead-end job.

I have thought of the VIG but it wont be this year, probably next. As it is I usually cram the usual 6 people into the hotel room to lower that cost. Gonna be stayin at the Hyatt Regency this year. After my friend had a new hotel over by the stadium he chose to have the housing bureau "upgrade" him and we stayed at the Conrad Hilton. EXPENSIVE!
I have always thought the Hyatt was nice looking and it being connected to the walkways, being right by steak n shake and a subway inside makes it real cool.
But to have all the cool stuff for the VIG package would be nice as well. To dream the dream
